Chaturanga Dandasana, The Gateway Pose
15th September 2019
Cost £30 members
Cost £35 non-members
If you take more rigorous yoga clases, then you have undoubtedly encountered Chaturanga Dandasana, the famous yoga ‘push up’. This powerful arm balance position builds strength throughout the upper body, particularly the arms, chest, and front abdominals. As such, Chaturanga is a gateway pose. It is the gateway to either building a tremendous amount of strength and being able to access other arm balance positions or if done incorrectly, it can be the gateway to injuries.
Join Aaron and Jemitra for an exploration of Chaturanga (they promise to not make you do Chaturanga for 3 hours). In this workshop, you will work with Utthita Dandasana aka High Plank and Chaturanga Dandasana aka Low Plank. Through a combination of lecture, partner drills, and solo work, we will make an in-depth foray into these two poses. Also, included is a Chaturanga Clinic where we look at common misalignments with a focus on preventing injuries.
Tea and homemade biscuits will be served during the break.

Andrea is a fully qualified yoga teacher and yoga therapist for hormone yoga for women, diabetes and male hormones.
Andrea grew up in Prague and has always had a keen interest in exercises and fitness. She has a background in international development and has spent many years managing development projects in Africa. She still spends much time there. She had been practicing yoga for more than ten years when she decided to channel her energies into becoming a yoga teacher. She recently trained in Hormone yoga therapy for women, for diabetes and for male hormones with Dinah Rodrigues (the only teacher who can train other teachers in Hormone yoga therapy).
Hormone yoga therapy is a fairly new in the UK but it is hugely popular in Europe, Brazil and the USA. After seeing the amazing impact that HYT has on women in the Czech rep., Andrea decided to start teaching this method in the UK as well.

A 2 hour workshop creating space to relax and recharge after a busy summer, with a focus on slowing down, reflecting and prioritising self-care as Autumn approaches.
Each monthly workshop will vary, but we will cover some of the core mindfulness practices- the breath and body connection, body scan, mindful movement and developing loving kindness (compassion) for others. Each class will include ideas and advice on how to integrate mindfulness in to your day to day life, in simple and accessible ways.
I have worked in the mental health field since 2006 and have always been interested in psychology and promoting wellbeing. I began practicing Mindfulness 5 years ago to manage my own stress levels and calm my ‘busy mind’, and found it really helped me (but it’s an ongoing process!). I completed my teacher training this year (2018) to further my own commitment to Mindfulness meditation, and also share these tools with others. My hope is to teach in a simple and accessible way so that you feel able to practice at home, and integrate the skills into day to day life. Mindfulness feels like an antidote to a lot of the pressures of modern living (busy, busy, busy!) and is a chance to connect with yourself, your intentions and what’s important.
